Case Study on Back and Sciatic Pain (Recommended cushions)
- Back pain from a whiplash accident
- Sciatic nerve pain
Firstly where is the sciatic nerve?
The sciatic nerve is a long nerve that runs from the lower back down the back of each leg.
What causes sciatic nerve pain?
Injury or pressure on the sciatic nerve which can cause pain in the lower back as well as the backs of the legs and buttock.
Most people recover from sciatica / sciatic nerve pain without surgery.
What can you do to reduce pain temporarily?
Movement is key, although it can be uncomfortable gentle exercise and back stretches will aid in recovery.
With the correct cushion you can ease symptoms of sciatica when sitting (i.e pain and discomfort).
We recommend the Sero Pressure Cushion. Pressure mapping has shown that the Sero pressure cushion drastically reduces pressure on the backs of the legs.
The raised "egg box" design allows unique pressure distribution which make sitting more comfortable. If the coccyx region is particularly sore we also offer an optional cut-out at the back of the cushion to remove further pressure (see below image).

This cushion comes with a stretch black or blue cover which makes the cut out discreet when not being sat on.
For the back pain we would always recommend adequate lumbar support. Depending on where you will be using the lumbar support we would recommend a different product.
1. In the Car.
In the car we would always recommend the Duo Back Support which has an adjustable strap that loops over the headrest to keep it in place. The Duo is available in Black and Beige. The Lumbar memory foam inserts contour to your body for optimum support. You can also remove part of the insert for a more tailored profile.

2. In an Office.
For an office we would recommend the 4" lumbar roll. This handy roll has an adjustable strap that fixes around the back of a standard office chair to keep it in place. The support should be placed in the small of the back to help support the natural "S" shape of the spine and encourage good posture.
